For book clubs

Pick next month’s book. One wins.

Everyone votes on their own phone, ranks the ones you all liked, and ranked choice picks the book. Nobody has to be the one who chose.

One email when the TestFlight opens, one when it hits the App Store. Nothing else, and no sharing your address: here’s the policy.

A book club poll for four people: Put them in order, with Startup Hell, My Friends, Riftborne, Bone Year and Swipe Bite, three of them numbered.

How it works for a club

  1. 1

    Put up the options

From your reading list, or search for any book. Set when voting closes.

  2. 2

    Send it to the club

Invite from your contacts, or share the link in the group chat.

  3. 3

    Everyone swipes

Yes or no, in their own time, with the description on each card.

  4. 4

    One book wins

If several get through, everyone ranks them. One wins, with a runner-up.

Fair, and nobody waits forever.

Ranked choice means the book most of you prefer wins, not the one with the loudest fan. A member who never votes doesn’t hold things up: whoever made the poll can close it, and what people answered still counts.

  • Counts only, never who voted for what.
  • A second chance when nothing is common: the books others liked get another look.
  • The runner-up is next month’s pick, ready to go.
You're reading Startup Hell by Caitlin Rozakis. First choice for 3 of 4. Runner-up: My Friends by Fredrik Backman.

Questions

How does the club pick the winner?

Everyone swipes yes or no on the same books. If one book gets a yes from everyone, it wins. If several do, everyone ranks those, and an instant-runoff count picks the book most of you prefer, with a runner-up. A tie left at the very end is settled by a coin toss, and the poll says so.

What if nobody agrees?

There is a second chance. The most liked books go round again, and each member sees only the ones they said no to, with a line like "3 of 5 liked this. Would you go along with it?" If still nothing is common, the most liked book wins, or whoever made the poll adds more books.

Can we see who voted for what?

No. While voting, members see only how far each person has got. Afterwards the poll shows counts, such as "3 of 4 put it first", never who voted for which book.

Can members suggest books?

For now, whoever makes the poll chooses what goes in, from their own list or by searching for any book. Collect suggestions in the group chat first, then put them in the poll.

Does everyone need the app?

Yes, for now. Everyone votes in the SortBridge app on iPhone, which is in private testing. Join the waitlist to be told when it opens.
